Mocha and Mascarpone are so named because naming them 'Coffee and Cream' seemed a little on the nose, no matter how nice that sounds. The theme is friendship between two, somewhat exotic cats, Mocha, clearly Siamese, while Mascarpone says she is Siberian.

Are they an item? I guess it’s all in the interpretation of the look these two are exchanging in the warm, evening light, the eyes, the negative space… that sharp blue glance from Mocha versus Mascarpone’s half-closed, content grin.

The warm pink-orange background suggests the glow of sunset without actually placing the cats in any specific location. They could be sitting on a wall with a view of the beach, or they could be sitting in a cosy living room catching the last rays of the sun through an open French door. Either way the intention is to make you grin, maybe raise an eyebrow, and imagine the backstory.

About the Artist

Hi I'm David Arandle, otherwise known as 'TET' (short for 'The Extraordinary Tourist') online. I'm a South Australian artist, writer, animator, video producer, and skateboarder, based in the Town of Gawler.

If you've just discovered my whimsical art cats you probably have some preconceived notion that I'm a cat person living with a whole 'clowder' of cats (did you know a group of adult house cats is called 'clowder'?). We'll I'm not that person. In fact, I've never chosen any of our family pets - or even been the person asking for a pet - over the years.

While I may not be the obsessed cat person you thought I was, I do find cats to be both fun and chaotic, but ultimately, optimistic with their approach to life and chasing small things that move. They each have their own personalities and quirks that very often raise a smile - which is really all I'm trying to convey with my art cat paintings, a sense of fun optimism to brighten up your day.

I've worked as a professional Graphic/Web Designer, freelance artist since 1994 and have sold my original paintings to clients worldwide almost exclusively through ebay since 2003.

My art  mostly focuses on fun, whimsical, original characters that are entirely the product of my own imagination. My  fun, cartoon style is influenced by Disney and Warner Brothers cartoons with a sprinkling of other artists styles thrown into the mix.

About TET

Hi, I'm South Australian Artist, Author, and Animator, David Arandle, A.K.A. The Extraordinary Tourist or 'TET' for short.

Welcome to my online Gallery!

On the surface my whimsical cat paintings bring joy and fun into your home but, on a deeper level they're all about relationships and how we relate to each other.

I don't have the space to paint large originals so being able to sell large format prints of my art is a chance for you to own a real statement piece that demands to be noticed!

(Though if you'd prefer an original painting be sure to see what's still available direct from my studio).
