This painting features two firsts; the first time I've painted a cat with pigeons, and the first time I've broken the edge of my white border with the image.

The backstory to this artwork... I have a photographic essay book called 'Cats in the Sun' by Hans Silvester that features the semi domestic cats of the Cycladic Islands. On page 78 there is an image of a lone cat approaching a group (flock?) of pigeons in a flat paved area, possibly very early morning? I thought, 'I've never painted a cat watching a pigeon before.' Within three sketches I came up with this composition.

It?s the perfect splash of personality to brighten up any room without taking itself too seriously. This piece can be hung immediately as is, or have it professionally framed to further suit the space you plan to display it.

About the Artist

Hi I'm David Arandle, otherwise known as 'TET' (short for 'The Extraordinary Tourist') online. I'm a South Australian artist, writer, animator, video producer, and skateboarder, based in the Town of Gawler.

If you've just discovered my whimsical art cats you probably have some preconceived notion that I'm a cat person living with a whole 'clowder' of cats (did you know a group of adult house cats is called 'clowder'?). We'll I'm not that person. I'm, generally a one cat or one dog kind of person, and that cat or dog will end up being one of my closest friends.

While I may not be the obsessed cat person you thought I was, I do find cats to be both fun and chaotic, but ultimately, optimistic with their approach to life and chasing small things that move. They each have their own personalities and quirks that very often raise a smile - which is really all I'm trying to convey with my art cat paintings, a sense of fun optimism to brighten up your day. 

However if you dig a little deeper, you'll see my cat art is very much about relationships, and how we relate to each other.

I've worked as a professional Graphic/Web Designer, freelance artist since 1994 and have sold my original paintings to clients worldwide almost exclusively through ebay since 2003.

My art  mostly focuses on fun, whimsical, original characters that are entirely the product of my own imagination. My  fun, cartoon style is influenced by Disney and Warner Brothers cartoons with a sprinkling of other artists styles thrown into the mix.
